We picked up our first batch of piglets. Baby pigs are so cute! These are 3 Berkshire gilts (females) 1 Berkshire barrow (castrated male) and 1 Red Wattle/Berkshire cross gilt. Of course it is the coldest morning in weeks here but we got them home and into a nursery we have set up in one of the sheds. I insulated the walls and ceiling, built a "hog house" in one corner and hung 4 brooder heat lamps in there. Then I stacked hay up against the outside of the house. There's plenty of ventilation but no drafts so I think they will do ok. They also have a deep bed of hay to dig into. They seem to be adjusting to their new home well. We love having pigs and really look forward to starting our own breeders.
Thank you all for the kind messages and help getting the word out. Both Andrea and I really appreciate it. We look forward to keeping you all updated as things progress.
